One of our current favourite shoegaze bands, Moonpools, have returned with their new single, ‘Someday’. The five-piece have turned the volume down with this track, replacing the roaring textures of their typical sound with a tenderly strummed acoustic guitar. Vocalist Marcie’s voice is gentle and airy, with melodic synths providing the perfect textural bed as the track quietly builds. “When we first played it as a band, we turned it into a dancey indie track. When it came to recording the tune, we realised it didn't work and left it on the sidelines,” they say. “I realised it needed to stay the way it sounded when I first wrote it, intimate and fragile. We recorded the song a few days later and decided to release it after all.” The band are gearing up to drop their new EP, Hide and Seek, on April 19th, 2024, via Young And Aspiring. -Dan Peeke
